A prominent concern is the issue of free roaming domestic cats (feral and pet animals). A great deal of research has been done and continues to be done on cat and bird interactions with birds and other wildlife not faring well.

Protecting shorebirds and their habitat from ecological and waterway disruption is critical to ensuring resident bird populations and the usefulness of global migration pathways.
