Virtual Field Trips provide a designated field trip location to bird, curate shared stories and digital artifacts to an online scrapbook, and host community meet ups. Join for a fun time birding on your own and comparing stories with other birders too!
Join us as we search for migrating waterfowl, late wading birds, and early “winter birds”. We’ll go over the checklist after the walk inside the Johnson Wetland Center. Hiking level is easy/moderate.
This is a good date for maximizing migrant, resident and wintering waterfowl including geese, swans, dabbling ducks and divers.
Our first stop was Wendy Park along the lakeshore just west of downtown Cleveland. While the shorebird migration is in its early stages, we found Least and Pectoral Sandpipers, Killdeer and Semipalmated Plovers, Lesser Yellowlegs and about ten beautifully buffy orange Short-billed Dowitchers feeding at the iron ore ponds just west of the main Wendy Park parking lot.
