Western Cuyahoga Audubon Society Photo Contest
The winner of the March 2021 Bird of the Month Photography contest is, "The Valiant Vulture" by Alisa Gerbec.
WCAS Judges were impressed with all the entries but this photo stood out because the bird is standing on the ground which is more unusual than the standard soaring buzzard shot. Your photo shows more detail of the bird that you usually don't see, a better view of the head and especially the scale-like pattern on the upper wing. It also shows that the bird is dark brown and not black which most people think they are because they only see them soaring in the sky.
Thank you Elizabeth Ouwerkerk for entering the photo, "Soaring Buzzard, Turkey Vulture in Flight", North Olmsted, Ohio. This photo stood out because of it's clarity and good capture of the bird in flight.
"We saw this turkey vulture on West Ridgewood Drive on our way to The Watershed Stewardship Center in Parma, Ohio. There were actually two vultures there eating some sort of prey on the far side." ~ Alisa Gerbec
The winning entry has been entered into the end of year Photography Showcase hosted in January 2022.
You do not need to be a member of National Audubon or Western Cuyahoga Audubon Society to enter monthly WCAS photo contests.
