[00:00:00] Nancy Howell, Treasurer & Membership, Chair, WCAS, welcomed everyone to the meeting and provided updates about chapter administration, introduced Board members present, reviewed upcoming programs, and annual membership. Nancy reviewed answers to the pre-program Bird Quiz questions.
[00:07:30] Michelle Brosius, WCAS Board Member & Field Trip Co-Coordinator, provided updates about the September 12, 2020 Second Saturday Bird Walk Report. In addition, Michelle reviewed Virtual Field Trip updates: she encouraged people to attend the September Community Meet Up, Wednesday, October 14, 2020 and talked about upcoming field trips. Michelle also provided updates on the chapter's Social Distancing Birding Guidelines.
[00:11:44] Gloria Ferris, Director-at-Large & Fundraising, Chair, WCAS, covered an update on Guardian of Nature Meetings: please plan to attend the Thur Oct 22, and Thur Oct 29, 2020 both at 7:00 p.m. (ET). Gloria introduced the October Bird of Month Fundraiser, October Photography Contest, and encouraged audience members to attend the WCAS Book Club Author Speaker and Discussion programs on October 18 & 25 at 7:00 p.m (ET).
[00:18:49] Nancy Howell reviewed Fall Warbler Challenge Sept. 1 through Oct. 31, 2020 updates, the Mid-challenge event Fri., Oct. 2, 2020, reminded people the Challenge is still on through the end of October, and to attend the Wrap Up on Sat., Nov. 14 at 3:00 p.m. (ET). Nancy introduced the Mask Contest, going on now through Oct. 18, asked everyone to register, that once a mask is completed take a photo or video and submit because starting Oct. 19 members and guests to WCAS will be doing the voting on masks and that there are prizes. Also, the Fledgling Birding Challenge - Fri., Nov. 27 Day after T’giving, find the 19 species of birds we have provided AND you get to add the 20th species.
[00:24:49] Amanda Sebrosky, Board Member & Founder, NEO Chimney Swift Conservation Society explained tower repairs have been on hold due to an injury she sustained. Elsewhere, Lisa C., east side of Cleveland in the old greenhouse corridor, sent an MP4 of Chimney swifts in a chimney on her property. She requested information of any grants, etc for repair of the chimney. I’ve asked for information for her plans for the property. NEOCS2 typically does not fund habitat on private land since there is no way to assure new owners would keep the habitat.
[00:26:10] Nancy Howell reminded viewers it's not too early to begin thinking and preparing for the 121st Christmas Bird Count, Sunday, December 27, 2020. WCAS will also provide pre and post CBC programming. In addition, don’t forget to become a member of WCAS … membership accepted any time of the year. Nancy concluded with a brief introduction to the November 3, 2020 speaker.
