Description: Iconic species, such as Scarlet Tanagesr and Bobolinks, are focal species of Audubon chapters’ conservation efforts that also connect us to Hemispheric initiatives supporting communities and habitats across the Americas. John Hannon will share the current state of bird conservation across the globe and how the BirdLife Partnership, which includes Audubon, is working throughout the Americas to combine community development with conservation, protecting the habitats of birds, and bringing awareness of the need for healthy ecosystems. [00:00:00] Nancy Howell, Treasurer & Membership, Chair, WCAS, welcomed everyone to the meeting, provided updates about chapter administration, introduced Board members present, and reviewed upcoming programs. Nancy also reviewed answers to the pre-program Bird Quiz questions.
[00:05:50] Michelle Brosius, WCAS Board Member & Field Trip Co-Coordinator, provided updates about the December 2020 Second Saturday Bird Walk Report, Virtual Field Trip updates, and Michelle reminded viewers of the chapter's Social Distancing Birding Guidelines.
[00:10:00] Nancy Howell for Gloria Ferris, Director-at-Large & Fundraising, Chair, WCAS, introduces a new program, the Guardians of Nature Junior Membership, invited the public to attend the next Guardians of Nature meeting on Thursday, December 21st & 28th at 7:00 p.m. (EST). Gloria introduced the December Bird of the Month Photography Contest winner and the January Bird of the Month Fundraiser and Photo Contest. Gloria closed by inviting viewers to the Sunday, January 17 & 24, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. (EST) Author Speaker programs featuring authors Carrie Green and Joy Kiser.
[00:16:30] Nancy Howell introduced the Mitchell's Homemade Ice Cream Gift Card Fundraiser, chapter membership, details of pre and post programs for this year's 121st Christmas Bird Count on Sunday, December 27, 2020, and concluded with a brief introduction to the February 2, 2021 speaker before introducing the evening speaker, John Hannon.
