Dates: March 1-31, 2021
Location: Cleveland Metroparks, North Chagrin Reservation. Suggested site: Oxbow Lagoon, accessed just south of Squire's Castle off Chagrin River Road.
Featured Bird Species: Red-winged Blackbird
Notes: Your visit can include anywhere in North Chagrin Reservation, but we are looking for Red-winged Blackbirds which are found at Oxbow Lagoon. Squires Castle is also a fun site from which you can observe birds. The Nature Center is closed, but the surrounding trails, Sunset Pond, and Sanctuary Marsh nearby are a great place to look for birds. Park Map
Bird Walk Leader: Michelle Brosius, Director-at-Large and Field Trip Co-Coordinator, WCAS, invites birders to bird at a monthly designated field trip location and share stories to a public digital scrapbook.
How To Contribute to the Scrapbook: During visits, attendees are encouraged to take photographs, draw a picture or create art inspired by what is seen, tally identified species, write down thoughts, create a poem, a Haiku, questions or curiosities about the target species or anything encountered at the location, i.e., bird, plant, butterfly, etc., or anything to do with the experience of visiting the public space. Contributions will be published to the WCAudubon.org website and shared on social media.
Follow Up Event: March Virtual Field Trip Meetup
Date: Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 7:00 p.m.
Location: WCAS Virtual Conference Center
Description: Field trip participants and the public are invited to meet fellow birders, explore a community digital scrapbook, ask questions, and share their experiences during their month of birding and journaling.
