WCAS MAKES FIVE SPECIAL AWARDS AT NEOSEF 2021
Ryan McMullen and Rachael Tomasko are the recipients of the top two Special Awards made by Western Cuyahoga Audubon Society (WCAS) at the 2021 Northeastern Ohio Science and Engineering Fair (NEOSEF). This year, 161 students in grades 7-12 entered projects. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 NEOSEF judging and the awards ceremony were accomplished virtually.
NEOSEF offers three kinds of awards. Regular Fair Awards are made according to subject area and grade level. Students who present the very best projects will represent Northeastern Ohio nationally and internationally. Younger students go on to the Broadcomm Masters program, while four high school students will participate in the International Science and Engineering Fair. Special Awards, such as those from WCAS, are made by professional societies and local STEM organizations, in their own areas of interest. WCAS makes awards for the best projects relating to birds or to environmental
science, with emphasis on local watersheds.
WCAS awarded three honorable mentions.
Each of the WCAS Special Award winners also won recognition from the regular fair judges and from other organizations. The full results of NEOSEF 2021 are on the NEOSEF YouTube channel as part of the awards ceremony: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjhw4Dd2Zqc
WCAS 2021 science fair judges were: Debra Jesionowski, Michelle Manzo and Penny O'Connor.
